West Bengal Panchayat Election 2023 Result updates: The counting of votes in the violence-hit panchayat and rural body elections in West Bengal is currently underway. This comes a day after repolling was held across 696 polling booths in 19 districts.
In this election, 37 people have lost their lives, with 18 killed on the day of polling on Saturday.
A total of 5.67 crore people living in the state's rural areas were eligible to decide the fate of 2.06 lakh candidates in 73,887 seats of the panchayat system.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said over 100 people from West Bengal have taken shelter in the state, fearing for their lives because of the panchayat election violence back home.
Stating that the people have been provided shelter in a relief camp, the chief minister assured them of “any humanitarian aid during times of crisis”.

CPI(M) leader Mohammad Salim criticised the TMC over violence in West Bengal during panchayat polls and said the entire process of the election is mired by mayhem. "From nomination to withdrawal to campaign to voting day, there has been so much of violence using police and goons," Salim said. ‘No hope from elections, Mamata Banerjee’s goons rigged results': BJP
"We have no hope from this election (Panchayat Election) after the kind of violence that took place earlier. This is not a mandate because Mamta Banerjee's goons forcefully got the polls done," said West Bengal BJP General Secretary Agnimitra Paul on Panchayat election results.
"The central security force was not allowed to reach, and there were no CCTVs in the polling stations. We have lost from many centres by 2, 4, 24 votes. Our victory in West Bengal is that people are coming on the road to defeat TMC," she added.
With TMC sweeping Panchayat, Abhishek takes a swipe at Opposition
As TMC is set to sweep the violence-scarred rural polls party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday said even a "malicious" campaign with "baseless" propaganda to malign the state government couldn't sway the voters.
Taking to twitter, Banerjee said, "The dejection of the combined opposition of BJP, CPIM & INC pales in comparison to the sadness that must be felt by friends from mainstream media.

Violence unfolds in Cooch Behar; TMC accused of thrashing poll workers
In Cooch Behar, the Trinamool Congress was charged with attacking poll workers. The TMC workers reportedly wanted a recount. The poll workers, however, refused to comply with that request. The Trinamool workers then attacked the election officials. Police arrived and took control of the situation.
